Your core strength is so important with cheerleading. It helps with jumps, tumbling, stunting, and even yelling a cheer. Things such as crunches and hollow/superman holds are great core work outs. Basic stretching such as legs, arms, and shoulders are what you should be doing. Yoga is a great way to stretch and work out! Try asking an adult to help you with your stretches or even asking them for advice.Always stretch before trying jumps! Plyometrics is a great way to build endurance, improve core strength, and leg power! It would help so much with your jumps. Believe it or Not, Most girls/guys who try out to be in the Varsity/JV cheerleading team hardly even know how to do a cartwheel, round-offs, or a toe-touch. If you aren’t flexible enough, or you ARE flexible just not capable of doing the stunts or jumps then join gymnastics. They know how to teach you all the stuff you want (cart wheel, tucks, hand stand, even splits, plus more) they have dealt with all sort of people; they know what they’re doing.
We Got Spirit
It's not the glitz of the uniform that matters, but the spirit that shines within it. Just like at school cheerleading has a dress code which you have to follow or it’s benched time for you! Most school squads wear a sleeveless top with either a sports bra or an athletic tank top underneath. During practices cheerleaders wear a tee shirt with soffee shorts; if you don’t own a pair of soffee shorts then they usually wear regular shorts NO JEAN SHORTs. Due to guidelines imposed by the National Federation of High Schools, high school squads must have a top that covers their midriff with arms by their sides .
